The Telecommunications
Regulatory Commission (TRC) was established with the publication
of the Telecommunications Law No. 13 of 1995 as the organization
responsible for regulating and monitoring the telecommunications
sector and for issuing the necessary licenses to operators. As
Jordan’s ICT sector has grown in line with global ICT developments,
the Law was amended in 2002 (No.13 of 1995, amended by Law No.
8 for the year 2002) to reflect changes in the industry and the
convergence of telecommunications and information technology.
The Law also separated the regulatory responsible from the government
and made provision for a board of five, full-time commissioners
responsible with focus on the continuation of maintaining high-quality
and ubiquitous services, safeguarding consumer interests and creating
a climate of confidence for investment in the ICT sector.
